What we have here is an mpv-based media player that doesn’t need a lot to run, does not have to be installed, uses internal codecs to play lots of multimedia files, features a good looking, dark-themed interface, and is offered for the great price of free. So if you need a free media player that can play just about anything and does so in a simple, uncluttered interface, go get Baka MPlayer.

As mentioned above, Baka MPlayer does not have to be installed. To get started with the application you will have to download a small archive, extract its contents, and then run the Baka MPlayer executable. Of course, the fact that Baka MPlayer does not have to be installed makes it portable. You can take this nice media player and enjoy it anywhere you go.

The black-themed interface is divided into several panels. The main panel displays the video you loaded for playback. To the right there’s a Playlist panel that can be hidden out of sight; when you load an MP4 file for example from a folder that contains several MP4 files and other video formats, all MP4 files will automatically be added to the playlist. Below these panels you will find the playback controls; and at the top there’s a traditional File Menu. So overall, it is a simple layout that you will quickly get accustomed to.

Baka MPlayer has the following to offer, from a functionality point of view: supports multiple media formats, easily select and play videos, playlists, open URL, shuffle, repeat, subtitles are supported, dim lights, voice control, say media name, and more. Since Baka MPlayer is free and open source, you have all the time in the world to uncover all its features.

Baka MPlayer is a great choice – a free, uncluttered, easy to use, portable media player that will play just about anything.

Pros

Baka MPlayer does not have to be installed; and that makes it portable. The application has a user friendly dark-themed interface. Support for many media formats is provided. Baka MPlayer comes with a nice and interesting list of features, such as say media name and voice control. Baka MPlayer is free and open source.

Cons

None that I could think of.
